Terry Seirlis created Building Futures to help boost the skills of young athletes in Warwick. Lilly Jones is a sporting all-rounder who excels at many sports and is the third-place receiver of Building Futures 2021. Lilly has reached high levels of competition through her hard work including national bench-rest shooting competitions, QLD state swimming and representative netball. Lilly told us a bit about her sporting commitment after the Building Futures dinner.

Q: What do you like about living and playing sport in Warwick?
A: Warwick has so many different opportunities to play a range of sports. Since moving to Warwick six years ago I have participated in taekwondo, dance, little athletics, netball, swimming, rugby union, benchrest shooting, rock climbing, wakeboarding and even brass band marching group. Whatever your interests there is a club or organisation in Warwick that will offer something that you like.

Q: What sports do you play?
A: I like participating in all sports though swimming and netball are the two that I take seriously with training and competitions.

Q: What do you love about sport?
A: Sport is social, and it is where I make friends. That is what I love most about sport. It also gets me out of the house and into the outdoors. Sport keeps me busy but in a fun way.

Q: What are your best sporting qualities?
A: I am a hard worker. I have worked hard to get good at my sports, especially swimming. I train five to seven times a week and during the holidays, it can be ten times a week, going to the pool morning and afternoons. I also do dry land weight training up to five times a week for strength and flexibility. Every little success and improvement that I make is all my own hard work.

Q: If you had to pick one sport as your favourite, what would it be?
A: It is hard to pick just one favourite as there are good things about both of my favourites – netball and swimming. Netball is a team sport where you work together and have lots of fun. Swimming is mostly me swimming up and down a lane. Also, netball is a winter sport and swimming summer, so this combination is perfect. If I had to pick only one sport it would be swimming. Mostly because how good you do is determined by the time on the clock when you hit the wall.

Q: Who is your favourite sports star?
A: I admire Katie Ledecky, Ariarne Titmus and Michael Phelps for their swimming abilities. They look incredible in the water. Our local Laura Geitz is also a favourite and Gretel Bueta who does amazing things on the netball court and always has a smile while doing it. I also love Sam Thaiday as he would always have fun but also worked hard like me.

Q: What are your future goals for sport?
A: I just want to keep swimming and playing netball or any other sport. Short term I want to continue to represent Allora Swimming Club at carnivals and Warwick for netball. I would also like to compete in a national benchrest shooting competition. Long term I would like to study sports medicine or sports psychology and maybe even become a professional coach.

Q: What do you plan to do with the Building Futures donation money?
A: The donation money I received will be used to pay for a swimming clinic that is coached by two Tokyo Olympic Gold Medallist Coaches – Michael Bohl and Vince Raleigh. It will be held in Brisbane in January 2022.

Q: What kind of equipment are you going to purchase?
A: I will be getting a FINA approved swim race suit. I am very excited to compete in a proper race suit.

Q: Has this donation helped spark your sporting drive?
A: It wasn’t so much the donation that has energised me personally but being chosen, first as a top ten finalist and then being awarded third place. Having someone recognise the effort and offer to support me, is what has given me a boost.

Q: How will this help you improve?
A: The acknowledgement Building Futures gave me has helped me to keep pushing and working hard, especially those cold 6 o’clock starts in the water. The recognition that I can do something special pushes me to keep working hard as it is worth the effort, time and commitment.

Q: Terry Seirlis said he was really impressed with your ability, and he wants to see you playing for Australia one day. Do you think you can do it?
A: I really hope someday I could represent Australia whether that be swimming, shooting or something else. It will be a lot of hard work but with perseverance anything is possible.

Q: Do you have anything you want to say to Mr Seirlis or Building Futures?
A: Thank you so much Mr Seirlis and Building Futures for giving me the support and recognition to push towards my sporting goals. Your kindness and generosity are greatly appreciated, and I hope to make you all proud.

Q: What do you like about living and playing sport in Warwick?

A: I love that I can be at the venue in less than 10 minutes, play on the fields that are world class and I get to play with my mates all the time. I also love that I have been able to try lots of other sports.

Q: What sports do you play?

A: Hockey and Cricket competitively, I also enjoy basketball at school and running. I did a lot of competitive swimming as an U12 year old.

Q: What do you love about sport?

A: Just pure enjoyment. I love competing and I love being around my friends and making new friends at sporting events.

Q: What are your best sporting qualities?

A: I’m a really good communicator and I have a never say die attitude. This drives me to always try my hardest and to get the most out of my team.

Q: If you had to pick one sport as your favourite, what would it be?

A: I would say that hockey is my favourite sport. It is really thrilling to play.

Q: Who is your favourite sports star?

A: Hockey might be my favourite sport, but cricket has my favourite sports star and that’s Pat Cummins. I am super excited he just got named as captain for Australia.

Q: What are your future goals for sport?

A: I want to play at the highest level! I really want to play for Australia one day in both Cricket and Hockey. I also want to study these sports at the AIS one day.

Q: What do you plan to do with the Building Futures donation money?

A: I plan to get some high-performance coaching that will really help me take my abilities to the next level. I also want to put some of the money aside to buy a car so that I will have transport available to get myself to training and clinics in other towns and cities.

Q: What kinds of equipment are you purchasing?

A: Cricket protective gear and maybe a new bat. I am also always in need of a new hockey stick so I will probably get one of those too.

Q: Has this donation helped spark your sporting drive?

A: The donation has been amazing. I love sport and have always had a competitive drive for sport that this has spurred on even further.

Q: How will this help you improve?

A: With high performance coaching it hopefully will give me an edge over my opponents. Coaching clinics help you focus on some key skills.

Q: Terry Seirlis said he was really impressed with your ability, and he wants to see you playing for Australia one day. Do you think you can do it?

A: Without a doubt.

Q: That’s the kind of confidence that will help you get there Samuel. Do you have anything to say to Mr Seirlis or Building futures?

A: Thank you, Mr Seirlis, for your generous donation. Our sporting communities [in Warwick] are set to benefit greatly. Building Futures has been a really enjoyable experience for me.

The Building Futures Program celebrated the future stars of sport at its inaugural dinner by donating $11,500 of prize money to the top 10 applicants.

With an initial planned prize pool of $8,000 the addition of $500 of funding for the 4th to 10th place getters came as a surprise to all attendees.

UKL’s Terry Seirlis, founder of the program said, the quality of the applicants had blown him out of the water, and he thought that they all deserved to win a prize.

“I was stunned by the talent of the top 10 and decided on the night that each one of them should get rewarded for their abilities,” Mr Seirlis said.

“Warwick has a huge future in sport with these athletes and it is a privilege to be a part of that.

“This town is like a second home, and I wanted to give back to the community here. After watching the Olympics, I was inspired and decided that supporting the future sports stars of tomorrow was how I would do it.

“I am just glad that Aleva Estate has given me the opportunity to support these young athletes and hopefully one day we will see a few of them on our TV screens,” he said.

Lesleigh Vincent received the first-place prize of $5,000 for her outstanding ability and leadership in polocrosse. Lesleigh said that she was thrilled to win and had big plans for her share of the prize money.

“I will be donating half of the money to Scots PGC College, and I will be donating the other half to my local Warwick and Cunningham polocrosse clubs,” Ms Vincent said.

As an outstanding cricketer and hockey player Samuel Bourke took home the second-place prize of $2,000. Samuel said the money would go a long way in getting him more training and support in the sports he loves.

“One day I want to play for Australia so this money will help me get new equipment and to attend the elite training camps held in Brisbane,” Mr Bourke said.

The third-place prize of $1,000 went to Lilly Jones, a sporting all-rounder who has made great achievements in netball, swimming and shooting.

Lilly said she has already signed up for a swimming clinic in Brisbane that she would otherwise not have been able to attend.

“The prize money will help me to hone my skills and allow me to upgrade my old equipment,” Ms Jones said.

$500 was also given to the other seven applicants who narrowly missed out making it into the top 3.

In no particular order these were Amira Duffy, Alivia Hallman, Mark Hallman, Lochlann Hogan, Mikayla O’Neill, Ashley Petersen and Samuel Wainwright.

During what some are calling a ‘COVID fuelled explosion’ Aleva Estate, much like the rest of Warwick, is seeing land run out. As the property market continues to boom in Warwick, house and land packages are selling out fast. Aleva Estate’s own Terry Seirlis said buyers are coming in droves to snatch up what’s left of the great packages on offer.

Warwick is seeing a shortage of land and Mr Terry Seirlis has said that Aleva Estate is seeing more enquiries about packages every day.

The popularity of Aleva Estate is reflected right across Warwick with many real estate agents stating they have less than half of the houses they would normally have for sale. You can read more about this here.

“It is great to see Warwick booming and being recognised for the amazing town that it is,” Mr Seirlis said.

“Land is starting to run out around Warwick, so now is the time to get in and buy before it’s too late,” he said.

Warwick has seen a huge boom since the start of COVID with many out of towners finding their way to the fresher air of the Southern Downs. We previously chatted with Aleva Estate resident Sally Keogh who made the move herself from Brisbane to Warwick. This ‘green rush’ is driving the sales of land across Warwick causing the ‘shortage’.

Warwick native and Aleva Estate homeowner Dan Morrish who we recently caught up with, had this to say about Warwick’s popularity “Warwick is in the middle of a hub. It is booming at the moment. Buying here has become super competitive, there are lots of houses getting snatched up by people buying from Victoria and New South Wales.”

Mr Terry Seirlis said while the land may be running out, he is excited to see the Aleva Estate community continue to grow.

Dan Morrish is a Warwick local who has grown up in the area and appreciates the many opportunities that the town has provided for him. He is a plant operator with the Southern Downs Regional Council and now thanks to Aleva Estate he has been given the opportunity to purchase his first home at just 23 years of age. Building a sense of community is important to developer UKL’s Terry Seirlis so we caught up with Dan to find out what he loves about Aleva Estate.

Q: Are you from Warwick originally?

A: Yeah, I am from Warwick. From just outside of town actually.

Q: What do you like about living in Warwick?

A: Warwick is in the middle of a hub, Stanthorpe and Toowoomba are both only short drives away and then you’ve also got Brisbane which is only two hours away. Plus, I grew up here and have had some great opportunities come my way with work. Warwick is really starting to grow now as well, there are a lot of people starting to move here from out of town.

Q: Is this the first home you have bought?

A: Yeah, this is my first home. It felt like a big achievement to do it by myself.

Q: Why did you choose Aleva Estate?

A: Originally my friend got me into the estate, we are building right next door to each other. But I quickly realised there is a lot of expansion and growth potential here at Aleva. You can see that other people are starting to notice it with all the houses that are being built here now. I really liked the big blocks that were available as well.

Q: What benefits does Aleva Estate have?

A: The large blocks for sure that mean you can build a good house and still have room for a backyard. The infrastructure here is good, the roads and pathways are really well taken care of. But my favourite part is the location. I have work just up the road and we are so close to the CBD you could walk there.

Q: You have a friend right next door so how do you feel about the sense of community at Aleva Estate?

A: The community here is great, yeah, I have a friend right next door and you always see kids out playing together in the street.

Q: How did the prices at Aleva compare with the rest of Warwick?

A: Warwick is booming at the moment. Even just to rent here can easily cost upwards of $380 a week. Buying here has also become super competitive, there are lots of houses getting snatched up by people buying from Victoria and New South Wales. Once I sat down and worked out the costs, I realised that buying a house and land package at Aleva was actually going to be cheaper for me than trying to rent anywhere in Warwick.

Q: How was the sales process?

A: I just messaged Terry Seirlis, the developer of the Estate, through the Aleva Estate website and he replied within two hours. Then it was easy from there.

Q: How did Terry help you, that made it so much easier?

A: He was just great. Whenever I needed anything, he was there to answer my questions and just guided me through the whole process. He kept in contact the whole time which is what made it so much easier for me.

Calling all Warwick junior sporting stars.

In the wake of Australia’s amazing performances at the Olympics and Paralympics, UKL Innovative Developments, the developer of local residential subdivision Aleva Estate, has been inspired to provide a head start to Warwick’s most promising sports stars of tomorrow.

UKL today announced the launch of its new community sponsorship program, Building Futures, which will provide a series of cash donations to support the athletic endeavours of local juniors.

UKL Director Mr Terry Seirlis, said he was turning his hand from building homes to building futures as sport was a big part of family life in Warwick and was home to many junior athletic stars.

“Like most Australians, I was inspired by our Olympians and Paralympians, so I decided to set up a sponsorship program to help Warwick’s budding athletes to achieve their sporting dreams,” Mr Seirlis said.

“With Brisbane Olympics 2032 coming our way, we are offering junior athletes in Warwick the chance to win a $5,000 main cash prize with $2000 and $1000 available for minor placegetters who finish on the podium.”

Mr Seirlis invited participants from all local sports to apply via the Aleva Estate website www.alevaestate.com.au with applications open for the entire month of September. A top 12 short list of nominees will be invited to an awards dinner at the Hawker Road function centre on Friday 29 October where the winners will be announced.

“Please visit our website and lodge your applications. Warwick has become like a second home to my family and I, and we want to support and see the local community grow in the same way it has supported Aleva Estate and helped it to grow,” Mr Seirlis said.

Warwick District Football Association’s secretary, Mr Peter Darton, said he believes as a program that encourages kids to play and excel at sport, Building Futures is just what Warwick needs.

“There is a great opportunity here for local athletes and we wholeheartedly support any program that gets kids out from behind their desks and getting active,” Mr Darton said.

“I would recommend that anyone and everyone who wants to achieve greater things applies for the program, I know a lot of players from our association will be,” he said.

UKL Developments Terry Seirlis is a Brisbane based developer and the visionary behind Warwick’s’ Aleva Estate, a residential precinct at the heart of Warwick which offers a great community feel to those who live there. As sales of the estate ramp up, Terry has plans for more development and investment in Warwick. We caught up with Mr Seirlis to talk all things Aleva.

Q: When did you first identify the Aleva Estate development opportunity?

TS: Aleva Estate was actually brought to me by one of my business connections in Brisbane in 2017 who knew I was in the market to do a residential development in Queensland country. As a former far north Queenslander who grew up on a cane farm, I’d been looking at opportunities further north but Warwick ticked all the boxes for me. The rose city has immense rural charm, it’s an easy drive from Brisbane and I sensed there would be increasing demand for housing.

Q. Why did you believe in Warwick’s potential?

TS: It offers great local hospitality, beautiful countryside, and lots to do. Warwick really is an undiscovered Australian regional town with enormous potential.

Q: What would you describe as Aleva’s greatest qualities?

TS: Aleva has so many great qualities. Geographically, it offers a rural setting with large blocks of land, elevated views and it’s walking distance to Warwick’s town centre. We offer a wide variety of design options and the feedback I’ve received from homebuyers is that it has a great community feel.

Q: Aleva was all vacant land just a few years ago, how does it feel to see it taking shape?

TS: It’s been a really rewarding experience. It’s important to me to make the whole Aleva experience as fuss free as possible so that homebuyers never lose that feeling of wonder and excitement they feel when they decide to purchase or build their dream home. I enjoy the process of helping people make one of the most important decisions of their lives. There is a real community feel at Aleva which is exactly what I wanted. Seeing people living there and enjoying the neighbourhood has been a career highlight.

Q: Now I understand that Aleva’s name has a special place in your heart?

TS: Yes, that’s right, Aleva is an amalgamation of my daughters’ names, Alex and Eva. Aleva will always be a keepsake for our daughters. For my wife Imogen and I, family is everything, and we wanted to infuse the development with a family feel. Our family has kept a number of homes at Aleva so in a sense we’re a part of the community. Warwick is like another home for us.

Q: How important is customer service to you?

TS: Customer service is very important to me. It isn’t just selling homes, it’s helping people achieve their dreams.

Q: What other Queensland regional developments have you worked on?

TS: In 2010 I was involved in a 12-lot subdivision in Cairns.

Q: We know Aleva estate is drawing interest from outside the Warwick area, where are these people looking to relocate from?

TS: Most of the enquiries of this type have come from Brisbane and Queensland’s east coast. There are a lot of people looking for a green change and Warwick is the perfect place for it.

Q: Why do you think so many people are looking for this ‘green change’ right now?

TS: Well as COVID continues to be a problem in cities across the country, rural centres like Warwick offer fresher air, country hospitality and an easier way of life. House prices are also surging in cities like Brisbane, and I think it’s this mix that is making people consider regional locations.

Q: Now that stage 1 is selling well, when would you expect to get started on stage 2?

TS: If all goes to plan, we are hoping to get started on Aleva Estate Stage 2 early next year.

For a neighbourhood lifestyle, set among beautiful open spaces and surrounded by endless opportunities, Aleva Estate is the place you will want to call home.

As the COVID-19 blues continue to lock down city centres around Australia, there’s a growing green rush to safer regional centres like Warwick if the red hot sales at local residential subdivision Aleva Estate are anything to go by.

UKL’s Terry Seirlis, whose company is developing the 58 lot Aleva Estate on Yangan Road, said sales had picked up speed this year with many city slickers relocating to the region.

“Sales have been ramping up with a month on month increase, we sold three lots in May, four in June and five in July with much of this interest coming from outside Warwick,” Mr Seirlis said.

“As the pandemic continues to plague city areas, rural centres like Warwick offer fresher air, friendly country hospitality and an easier way of life and I think it’s that mix that’s boosting the region’s appeal.

“Plus surging house prices in city centres like Brisbane have forced people to consider regional locations where their dollar goes a lot further,” he said.

Former Brisbanite, Ms Sally Keogh, who bought one of Aleva’s largest lots in May to build her dream home, said there was “lots to love” about Warwick.

“There’s so much space, I can build a larger home to work and live and still enjoy a shed and a backyard. There’s great views and I’m within walking distance of the town centre. I also love the sense of community you feel when you drive into Aleva,” Ms Keogh said.

“I am new to the area having moved from Brisbane but the whole experience has been a breeze, I walked through the estate, found the exact block I had in my mind, and Terry made it all happen without any fuss.

“Most of the blocks in the Estate are bigger than what’s on the local market, and certainly bigger than anything I could afford in Brisbane,” she said.

Mr Seirlis said lot sizes at Aleva ranged from 533m2 to 1,219m2 and there were completed houses ready for sale as well as land lots available for buyers to build their own home with their preferred builder.
