Q: What do you like about living and playing sport in Warwick?

A: I love that I can be at the venue in less than 10 minutes, play on the fields that are world class and I get to play with my mates all the time. I also love that I have been able to try lots of other sports.

Q: What sports do you play?

A: Hockey and Cricket competitively, I also enjoy basketball at school and running. I did a lot of competitive swimming as an U12 year old.

Q: What do you love about sport?

A: Just pure enjoyment. I love competing and I love being around my friends and making new friends at sporting events.

Q: What are your best sporting qualities?

A: I’m a really good communicator and I have a never say die attitude. This drives me to always try my hardest and to get the most out of my team.

Q: If you had to pick one sport as your favourite, what would it be?

A: I would say that hockey is my favourite sport. It is really thrilling to play.

Q: Who is your favourite sports star?

A: Hockey might be my favourite sport, but cricket has my favourite sports star and that’s Pat Cummins. I am super excited he just got named as captain for Australia.

Q: What are your future goals for sport?

A: I want to play at the highest level! I really want to play for Australia one day in both Cricket and Hockey. I also want to study these sports at the AIS one day.

Q: What do you plan to do with the Building Futures donation money?

A: I plan to get some high-performance coaching that will really help me take my abilities to the next level. I also want to put some of the money aside to buy a car so that I will have transport available to get myself to training and clinics in other towns and cities.

Q: What kinds of equipment are you purchasing?

A: Cricket protective gear and maybe a new bat. I am also always in need of a new hockey stick so I will probably get one of those too.

Q: Has this donation helped spark your sporting drive?

A: The donation has been amazing. I love sport and have always had a competitive drive for sport that this has spurred on even further.

Q: How will this help you improve?

A: With high performance coaching it hopefully will give me an edge over my opponents. Coaching clinics help you focus on some key skills.

Q: Terry Seirlis said he was really impressed with your ability, and he wants to see you playing for Australia one day. Do you think you can do it?

A: Without a doubt.

Q: That’s the kind of confidence that will help you get there Samuel. Do you have anything to say to Mr Seirlis or Building futures?

A: Thank you, Mr Seirlis, for your generous donation. Our sporting communities [in Warwick] are set to benefit greatly. Building Futures has been a really enjoyable experience for me.
